'The question not asked is the only bad question' in a free country. The forum is where America stands out, but we need to grow and if we don't tell it (the forum) in a positive way we are only undermining ourselves. There are people who hand out flyers door to door for homes, bussinesses, or elderly residences almost next to where we meet now. I know we need younger active people to see the benefits of an open forum where people can gain information on the working of our society. I want to thank everyone for their present and future efforts in keeping the forum going.

Virginia,

What does it mean? Beats me.

This was the information I was provided, so I made it available. I understand there will be more clarification about future programs coming my way soon. I'll update the speakers page as more information becomes available.

Where did the City Club redistricting plan come from? Have you been to a City Club meeting? Very phony formal. Who is trying to get free PR? Thanks!

Brandon,

Thank you for the thoughtful response.

I am going to pass your comment on to the forum board. Perhaps they might consider a student rate. They are generally receptive to those kinds of suggestions.

Thanks.

Hello,
I saw this advertised through Washington County Dems and I decided to browse around. As a younger person (25) I thought I might give you my perspective on the event and some barriers that might keep young folks away. I have Mondays off this term and I am debating whether I will attend some of these events. These are some of the considerations that I am taking into account.

1) Price: The weekly price of attending events and the membership price are very high for a young person. It is a rare occasion that I eat a $10+ lunch and I won't pay $10 for only a soup and salad. I also do not have money to spend $60-80/year on the membership.

2) Participation: Since most young people won't pay the membership fee, they will be unable to ask the speakers questions. This dissuades me from attending, as I will not be able to interact with the speakers and find more out about issues that concern me.

Not relatable to me, but is important to consider:
3) Timing: It is in the middle of a week day. Many young people will be in work or school during this time. If they do have a lunch break, they won't be able to get to the event on time due to its location, as many young folks don't have a car or their lunch breaks aren't long enough. I live in Beaverton, but go to PSU. I would not be able to get to this event and still get to class.

These are just some thoughts from my perspective. I am still deciding whether to attend or not.

It's pretty obvious that we need to mount a public relations campaign. Since Bill Kroger has done admirable work in this field for another major entity, perhaps we could profit by asking him to take on this job as well.

I suggest contacting PCC Rock Creek, to attract young members, who are contemplating future careers and would benefit from our programs

The fact that membership is declining and we are unable to attract younger members would seem to indicate we can not continue the same way we have since 1956. The real question is whether we have what it takes to make the changes necessary to move forward. It has been my impression the forum barely has the energy to even maintain things at the 1956 level.

Can the WA CO Public Affairs Forum continue to operate the way it has since 1956? What steps is the board taking to discuss this issue with its club members and the broader publIc including individuals and groups. Isn't it time to talk with others so that we gain some perspective?
